How it works
- 1
Enter your business details and the client you are billing.
- 2
Set the invoice number, dates, and currency.
- 3
Add each product or service as a line item with a quantity and rate. Add tax or a discount if you need to.
- 4
Download the finished invoice as a PDF to send, a Word file to edit further, or an Excel file whose totals keep calculating.
What the generated invoice includes
Every download carries the same layout: your business details, the client, the invoice number and dates, a line-item table with quantities and rates, a subtotal, any discount and tax, the total due, and your notes or payment terms. The PDF is ready to email or print. The Word file opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice so you can tweak the wording. The Excel file keeps the amounts, subtotal, tax, and total as live formulas.
Your data stays in your browser
The invoice is built on your device using JavaScript. Nothing you type is uploaded to our servers. Your draft is kept in this browser so you can come back to it, and you can clear it at any time with Start over.
Prefer to start from a template?
If you would rather keep a master copy in your own software, download one of our free invoice templates for Word, Excel, Google Docs, Google Sheets, or PDF instead and fill it in each time.
Questions about the invoice generator
Is the invoice generator really free?
Yes. You can create and download as many invoices as you like in PDF, Word, or Excel format, with no account, no watermark, and no trial period.
Which format should I send to my client?
PDF is the safest choice: it looks the same everywhere and cannot be edited by accident. Use Word if you want to adjust the wording first, and Excel if you or your client want the totals to keep calculating.
Can I add my logo?
Not yet in the generator itself. Download the Word file and insert your logo in the header, or start from one of our free Word or Google Docs invoice templates, which have a logo placeholder built in.
How is tax calculated?
Enter a tax name, such as VAT, GST, or Sales tax, and a percentage. The tax is applied to the subtotal after any discount, and the total is the taxable amount plus tax.
Does the generator save my invoices?
It keeps your current draft in this browser so you can pick up where you left off. It does not keep a history of past invoices. Save the downloaded files somewhere safe, or use an invoicing app such as Invoicer.ai if you need sending, tracking, and payment collection.
